Week # 30 - The Work is Moving Forward at an Incredible Pace!

Hey Family, I've heard more about the devastation in Beira.  It's terrible!  I heard over 1000 deaths and still rising...

I'm doing great! We didn't have power last night so none of us slept at all and mosquito's were everywhere!  It was muito mal (very bad), but I'm fine now.  I  haven't showered in a few days... haha, but I'm doing pretty good.  Today was transfers!!  I'm staying in Nacala with Elder Francom!!  Elder Thornton is staying, but Elder Grange got transferred to Maputo, Crazy!  I am way pumped to stay and work with these people!!  Beira has been shut down to the Missionaries.  The whole Beira area.  So Matacuane, where I served, is now shut down.  Hopefully everyone is ok.  Scary story: The Elders in Beira,  7 of them missed the flight and had to stay out in Beira through the Cyclone and flooding.  Then President Senna sent up a rescue team of 10 missionaries to get them out, but they are all fine now.

Wow this week has been crazy!! This Sabado (Saturday) we had 3 baptisms and next Sabado we have 4 and a casamento! (marriage}
I'm way pumped for the marriage this week.  We have 4 Baptisms scheduled and the other Elders have 5 on data.  If it goes through there will be 9 people Baptized this next week!!

Sometimes we help pay for the people to turn in their paperwork.  They don't have any money and we do what we can to help them out.  This past Saturday the names of those baptized were: Mira & Atisha - 2 girls  and an older lady in her 30's who is really nice Alema.  The couple's name that is getting married is Alexander and Louisa and they have a filha (daughter) Maria.  And the 4th person is a great kid who is 14 years old.  His name is Pedro. He and I talk a lot. He even helps me with Portuguese.  He is way cool.

President Tendi is in charge at the Church (Our Group).  He is able to help when the couples getting married.  He knows were to get a cake and we will have a celebration for them after they are married at the Church.  We will have food and cake and hopefully we will have some music and stuff.  I just hope everything pulls through because it's hard here for the details to come together like you want them to.

We just gave 3 men the priesthood this past Sunday and they blessed and passed the Sacrament.  I loved watching them participate in the Priesthood.  It was so great.  I am still passing the sacrament every week.  Our President Tendi conducts the meeting.

The rain we have had has left ALOT of mud.  It does not work to wear boots all day. We walk way too much.  My shoes will just have to get fixed, but that's an easy fix.   It's been good.  Portuguese is still coming, but it is a slow grind.  I'm trying to have more spiritual experiences, but its still hard.  I've been doing lots of study in the Book of Mormon in English and Portuguese.  I'm praying to feel the Spirit more.  It's just hard when I feel like most of the day I'm trying to understand and talk and my brain doesn't have time to take a break and think spiritually.   I look forward to the day when speaking Portuguese comes without thinking.

I feel like I just need to think more of others than myself. That's why I am so pumped for General Conference.  Hopefully it will be in English, haha.  I have heard so many rumors about changes at Conference?  Like a shorter Mission for the Elders so it will be the same for the Sisters and the Elders.  Who knows!
Well, I got to bounce!  See ya!

Thanks, Love You

Elder Rees
