Week #13 - I made it to Africa!

Ola Familia e amigos,

I'm in Africa! Its crazy here!
I don't even know where to start.  Its just like I imagined and so far I can't understand anything at all. haha but its coming along well.

Monday- we flew out from Tallahassee (had to wake up at like 3) our flights went really well, we took off from D.C at around 5ish Monday night.

Tuesday- I was in the air the whole day and I couldn't sleep at all just got in some good studies over the night and through out the next day. I tried to do some language study but it would get way boring. and that was a long plane ride!  it was so nice they gave us breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus blankets and a toothbrush. It was a huge plane!

Wednesday- We landed in Ghana and stayed there for a few hours to fill up the tank.  Immediately after we flew off to South Africa.  We landed got off and boarded a smaller plane to Mozambique and landed at about 10ish. We all went to the Mission Presidents house and ate there.  None of us could understand anything, he only speaks Portuguese. So the whole night it was pretty quiet.. The AP's then took us to their apartment at like 12 and we slept there. And yes we are in mosquito nets!

Thursday- First official day in Africa.  We woke up really early and went to zone conference in Maputo and met tons of missionaries there.  I even saw Elder Thornton! I got him his card and I hope Elder Grange has received his package because I gave it to the AP's. Zone conference was all day and it was all in Portuguese so I didn't really understand any of it.  But we were lucky, Elder Thornton was nice enough to translate for me and a few other missionaries.

Friday- We were at the AP's house and it was fun to be with all some of the elders.  Those going to Maputo left and all the Elders going to Beira or Nampula stayed another night. We went tracking with some Elders and It was insane that I am actually in Africa! We went out and some older kids and younger kids ran up to me and started laughing and touching my arms and shaking my hands.  It was way weird.   Elder Barney and I were together with one of the older Elders.  So far I'm loving it.

Saturday- Well I got on another plane today, a lot smaller but not crazy small to head to Beira. Coolest thing happened. I talked to a guy on the plane for like 10 minutes about the church.  I could barely understand any of what he was saying, but I could piece it together. We landed and I met my compheiro, Elder Francom.  He's so awesome!! One crazy thing in Africa is the driving.  Everything is on the left side of the road and there are no lines.  People just shoot the gaps, crazy scary actually, and they have these cars called chapas that they stuff tons of people in. crazy stuff! We got to the apartment and hit the sack.

Sunday- We went to church.  I didn't understand a thing.  We went home and my compeheiro has been kinda sick so we just chilled at home.  I am in a 4 pad again with all Americans so we can speak English, very nice.

No pictures this week because we can't take out the camera that much for danger reasons.

Thanks for your prayers,

Elder Rees
