Week #80 - Keep the Faith and Keep on Working!
The week has been good. We have not done much in our area, but we did run around alot!
We had the 1st missionaries arrive to the Beira Mission this week. We have 13 that are in our zone, all from Brazil. The AP's and Pres Senna arrived the night before and we had a few vans to pick them up. At 2pm all the missionaries arrived and we had a welcome banner for them at the airport. We met with them at the the church and had everything set up and ready. As soon as they all arrived what do you think happened? The power dropped! So we quickly worked on the generator, but that was broken... So the districts gave their counsel and President Senna helped the missionaries get to know him better and then he scared the missionaries with all the health rules. I think he has more rules now then when I came to the mission. It was a little after 11am and he said to me and my companion that the Spirit is not here so we need to break and wait for lunch. We got someone to fix the generator and so we were able to finish the training after lunch. I think our section went well.
A missionary, Sister Taylor, just arrived from America and I guess she is sick, because she is quarantined for 14 days. Who knows what is happening with the coronovirus here. I don't think you would ever know if anyone had it. I don't think the doctors could help them. A lady that I knew well when I served with Elder Van Ordin died on her way home from church this last week. I've been trying to reach him about it. Elder Sosa had a bad headache this week, so we visited the hospital again - the good one. They were not much help. My throat is hurting so I have been taking some pain medication that I brought with me.
Our zone conference was the day after President met with the missionaries. We have so many new missionaries and some different rules now. One is Sister Senna wants the missionaries drinking water from 5 gallon drums. She thinks it is safer then from the church filter. So we are now driving water all around. We picked up 22 5 gallon drums and drove them around. I think that just means more driving for us! Medical supplies, mosquito nets, etc have been set up. We didn't have all that. I am sure with them being so far away they want the missionaries to be as safe as possible. Some of the missionaries are having a tough time already, but that is just what it is like here. It takes time to adjust. Elder Thorton and Francom were amazing. They taught me so much.
I met with President and both of us have 4 months left. He asked me if I am getting trunky and I had to be honest and tell him I am a little bit. He laughed and said he is too. He told me to just keep the faith and keep on working! Some of the missionaries refer to me as the pageant boy or the cumorah missionary now, kind of interesting. I love it here, it is good. We have a great deal to do to get things moving in the zone. Elder Sosa leaves in 2 months and we have many more people to find and teach. Thanks for your prayers, I need them.
Com Amor,
Elder Rees
