Week #79 - Give them Hope, Share the Book of Mormon, & Testify of Christ

Another interesting week.
Transfers were last Saturday so we have been driving everywhere.  Saturday we woke up at 2am and Sunday 4am to get to the airport. We left right after the Sacrament on Sunday trying to get missionaries and supplies out.  I am staying with Elder Sosa one more transfer.  I have been in Beira now 1 whole year.  I love it!   We are getting another dupla so we have 20 missionaries in our zone.  7 duplas will be training new missionaries.  George, the mission worker has to take care of 3 more homes now. We have 4 Americans, Elder Hammer, Squire, Jones, and me in the zone.  The other missionaries are from Brazil or Africa.  The new missionaries come on the 26th.  The AP's arrive today and Pres. Senna comes in tomorrow.

We had 3 baptisms this week!  So excited. Domingo's is the skinny one.  He is always sick.  We wondered if we would have to carry him or if he would be able to walk. He is such a great guy.  Marcello is on the right and we taught and baptized his sister and Felix is in the center.  He is a tough dude.  He is the guard at the church and he is the one that read almost the whole Book of Mormon and wanted to be Baptized.  He has a great testimony!  Not sure where he gets his size, he is the biggest Mozambiquean I have seen.

We did not have energy the past few days so we filled a bucket with rain and took a bucket shower.  The worst is when it hits my back and then I am ok.  Some days I'd take a cold shower over a hot one though because it is so hot.  I do look forward to a hot shower again though.  I showered and took 20 steps and was dripping with sweat.  No kidding, it is so hot here.  Without air conditioning  I can not sleep.  We have them in our bedroom.  We always hang out in there when we are home.

All I hear about here is coronovirus, the olympics, and Donald Trump.  They are all over the news.  I am trying to do more exercise.  So I have been jumping rope in the mornings and I really want to go to a grass track in Manga.  It is available from 3-5am.  I set my alarm before 5 am every day this week, but it was not for exercise.  It is cool enough to run for a short time.  We saw an incredible sunrise at 4am within 45 min it was blazing hot.  The moon and the sun look so huge here too.

We hope all goes well with the new missionaries this week.  It feels like I have been here so long some days. Hopefully I can help some of them like I was helped.  It was a tough transition.  We have been reading and preparing from the Book of Mormon a ton.  Give them hope, share the Book of Mormon, and testify of Christ is our focus.

Com Amor,
Elder Rees
