Week #78 - The Book of Mormon is Changing the World!

Hey family its been an great week!
Lots of work in the area and some amazing visits.  I saw a sunrise this morning at 4:30am.  Incredible.

The Durban South Africa Temple dedication was awesome and Elder Rasband was there so it was incredible.  The Beira Stake President gave one of the talks.  The people have never experienced anything like this before.  They have never had anything so formal.  We were instructed to lock the doors when it began and each person had to have a recommend.  There were 3 sessions.  We had to turn down so many people for not having a recommend or coming late.  We would tell them they could see the next session.  They did not understand, but we had to do it.  They also had never seen the hosanna shout.  Just me and the other missionaries were waving our handkerchiefs.  They just looked at us and started waving their hands.  It was so wonderful to see them have this opportunity.

Last P-day evening we took a flight to Tete.  We waited to be picked up, but no one came so we grabbed our suitcase and started walking at 2300 until we hit a gas station.  The secretaries found us soon after that.  The secretaries run all over the mission buying and setting up houses.  We did splits with the AP's.

Tete is really hot and there are pigs running everywhere!  It looks like Africa.  They speak a dialect here.  Tete is bigger and they have more money here.  It is a newer area and tons of people speak english.   We were hoping to see a hippo or crocodile.  We drove by slowly a few times, but all we saw were people washing their clothes on the side of the river.  It was an amazing trip and Wow!! The most beautiful place ever.

I had a close call driving this week.  Chapa vans and buses stop anytime they need to in the middle of the roads and you are expected to just drive around them real fast.  People expect you to move.  I don't think I was moving fast enough and thought I was going to get hit for sure.  I never see wrecks, but they drive crazy.  I guess they are pretty good drivers.

We have some work to do for our zone.   We are not where we should be.  So it was work, work, work.  We are getting our training ready for the new missionaries.  Some is from Chapter 5 of the Book of Mormon. Transfers are this week.  We are teaching a new kid  who is 19 years old named Joe.  Wow,  what a kid!  He's incredible and has so many questions about the gospel.  We just set his baptismal date for Feb. 29th, so i'm excited for him.

It's so powerful to see how people change so fast here when we just teach them about the Book of Mormon.  We are teaching a man named Felix and we gave him a Book of Mormon last week and 5 DAYS LATER he was in Ether and now he wants to be baptized!  Its just incredible!  He loved the story about Laban and Nephi, its so cool.  I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God!  It has more than just cool stories it brings the world to Christ!!  Love you all,
