Week #63 - Flooding, Animals, and Elder Holland
What a week! We have had tons of interviews and have been pulled over a lot. The International License does help, but they still try and get money from us. We have been without power in most of the areas for a whole week! Elder Silva and I have been driving around bottled water to our missionaries and making sure they have everything they need.
We had a surprise call from the District President on Sunday. He was furious and said their was water throughout the church building! He said that one of the missionaries had done it. We apologized and told him we would get over there immediately! While we drove over we called and found out that a missionary was filling the font on Thursday and the power went out. The water shut off and he thought that the water was off. So they left. When the power came back on the water had been running for 3 days!!!
The District President was right! Water was throughout the whole church building. We worked and worked to get the water out. It is in the walls and everywhere. We have carried buckets and buckets full. Sunday and P-day that is all we have been doing is cleaning the church the best we possibly can. The missionary feels horrible and so do we! We will see what we need to do to help the District President. That might be real expensive for the District.
On the positive note: President Senna is so pleased with our Zone! We have the highest baptisms and Family History Names submitted for the month. This week our Zone submitted 300 Family History Names. He is so happy that he invited Elder Silva and I to go with him to South Africa to an Animal Park on a P-day!! I was stoked. Then my (Sr Comp) Elder Silva told me that he turned it down because he wants to do something for the whole zone! What?? I was so sad! I think we can do both right? I am trying to work it out - go with Pres Senna and do something with the zone. I just really want to see an animal out here! Elder Silva is being a great example, but I am hoping we can still do both! It will all be good.
Guess what? Elder Silva and I have been invited to be with Elder Holland!! President is flying us out next week to Maputo. He could only get a return flight like 5 days later. So we will be in Maputo 3 or 4 days with nothing to do! I am hoping to sneak in seeing some Animals!! When we have been there we usually go on splits with the missionaries and just keep working.
From what I hear, Elder Holland is going to make a stake in Nampula and maybe even a branch in Nacala! There are at least 4 other general authorities joining him on this visit. I can't wait to meet Elder Holland!! The planes here give you a meal which is cool. But they are small and it makes me a little nervous. I pray before we go every time!
The location in Beira where we email is shutting down. I am not sure where all the missionaries will be able to email and skype their families? We have been working with some people and are preparing them for baptism on Nov 23rd.
We have the greatest missionaries in the Manga Zone!! They work so hard and I am so grateful for them. I know God is watching over the people here. I am so grateful for the Savior. He makes it possible for people to change. I see the people receiving greater strength when they keep the commandments. The people here have a great spirit about them. The work is progressing, just as it has been prophesied! I know the Church is True!!
