Week #62 - Alma is incredible - what a missionary!
This week was a crazy week! we had tons of picking up to do at the airport and tons of preparation for conference this saturday.
Com Amor,
Elder Rees
Monday. p day talked with the family and that was awesome.
Tuesday -
woke up at 3 this morning to get people from the airport and take them
around to their comps and to their areas so ya we were driving about all
day, and ended the day with work in the area. It is tough to keep up with progressing people when we are driving around so much. President Senna is a machine with goals! We are going to have to really work hard with our Baptismal Goals and our Family History Goals!
Wednesday -
woke up and did some temple names, still have the goal for the temple. We are
getting Mozambique ready to receive a temple! We taught an English class and had all the people fill out their family
tree. We had to really work with them to help them to write the names
of their parents and grandparents and where they were born and where
they died. We got 80 names from this class. People don't keep records
here, so we have to do lots of questioning and work them through a
process to help them. Once they fill out the names the missionaries
speak with the clerk and get a membership number for the people. Then we type in the information on the computer. We had some great lessons and a dinner with members, then had to run around until 2 am!
Thursday - washed the car today getting ready for President Senna. Afterward the
secretaries came really early and we picked them up. Then we had to run
around water and beds to others in the zone, but all fun.
Friday
- we were with the other zone leaders and we cleaned the chapel it was
really dirty! haha. But we did the best we could cleaning it up. It looks
great now! walked with a member in our ward who just received his call
to Ghana so that was awesome! We have been showing him how to do missionary work and
teach.
Saturday - was conference day! wow it was
incredible! The day started kinda hard. The secretary took the car in
the morning so we had to take a chapa and when we arrived at the church the bishop
wasn't there to give us the keys. I was stressing hard core, then we got
the keys and the power fell!! We lost power, it happens lots here. We decided that only the Lord could bring on the power, so we prayed lots. We saw the guard who had the keys to the generator so
it all worked out!.
Elder Silva and I gave a training about finding
faith when finding people. We shared the story of Alma and how he
had to find people and how he had difficulties during preaching the
gospel and how he eventually was lead to Amulek, Amulek let him in to eat because he
was fasting to find and to teach the people. Together they began teaching. In
these scriptures we can find so many things Alma did to show his faith
in the Lord! I encourage each of you to read this chapter and increase
your faith and do as Alma did (Alma 8).
Also President Senna asked
me to lead the conference so that was really fun. I introduced everyone and we had a great conference. We ate really nice for
lunch and afterward Elder Silva & I and the other zone leaders ate
with President and Sister Senna at the hotel for dinner. Lots of food, so ya this week
has been a blast, really tired but really happy..
Mom this Sunday I got my international license!! so thanks, it means a lot. I was pulled over 3 times this week 2 times I showed them my American License and they let me by. But the 3rd time they said I was speeding - 20 miles over! I am not sure how to do that with these bumpy roads. They wanted to see my documents and didn't care about my American license! They kept telling me I had to get out of the car. I told them I am not getting out! So I saw a cool looking pen in the car and showed it to them and told them it was a special pen from America. That I would give this to them and then I would come back and take care of things. They liked the pen and sent us on our way! The license will help a ton!! I hope!!
I love you all, I'm so
thankful for this mission, for the people here, and especially for the
gospel we have. We are so blessed to live in the church and to be so
close to the center of the church, the Church is True!
