Week #58 - We Can Walk with CHRIST!!

We have done lots of running around this week.  I have started to learn how to drive a stick shift.  Other than starting and stopping it is no problem, haha. We still have our own area and we get up and teach people in the morning and then come back for lunch and then usually have to drive to help other missionaries and drive to the airport.

Thursday we met with the District Leaders and did interviews for the people they are preparing for Baptism.  It is cool to sit across from someone who has just learned the gospel and ask them questions and have them share with me their feelings and testimony.

We drove to the airport a few different times this week picking up missionaries and getting them to their area and delivering bedding and supplies to the missionaries.  We are the ones that have to drive to get paperwork for peoples weddings and things like that too. In my area we have been working with lots of people and we will have 8 baptisms this week .  We just had a wedding on Saturday - it was so great!

American's are the only ones who can drive in the mission.  The  other missionaries cannot get the proper paperwork and license, so I think I will be driving alot!  I just heard that next month for zone conference I will be driving President Senna around!  I hope to improve a ton before that!

The mosquitoes are bad in this new area.  I was covered with bits the beginning of the week so I am taking all the needed medicine to keep me healthy!  I have not felt like eating much, nothing looks good to eat.  I am trying to do it though.   I feel so nervous about driving and all the changes.

The Bishop set ups the Serving Hands service project!  We cleaned both sides of the road in front of the church.  He is a great man.  The people here like to tease me - they tease all the Americans.  They were teasing me that I don't know how to work because I was shoveling out the weeds.  I don't think they know you can get rid of them?  I just roll with their teasing - EVERYONE does it!

My embarrassing moment was that I stalled the car 2 times - one right after another turning around on the highway.  I drive a nice Forerunner and sometimes a truck.  They had me drive a chappa van too!  Way Scary!!

This Saturday after our baptisms in the morning we are going to fly into Maputo and watch conference with President Senna.  I think we will have some meetings too.  Conference will be in Portuguese! - but at least I will be able to listen to it!!

This week we learned a lot about how you should walk with the Spirit everyday.  It really hit me when one of the returned missionaries from church shared a personal experience about that Sunday.  I know that when we try and follow the teachings of Christ He will guide us and we will be able walk everyday with the spirit.   When we walk I feel that its a really thing... we really walk with Christ.

I see the Savior in everything we do.  I see Him in the words that we say, in the people we are guided to, in the blessings we give, in the change that is occurring in these peoples lives.  I see the Savior's Light filling the eyes of the members here and how they are living different than those they are around.

I know how powerful the Spirit is!   I can definitely feel the difference some days when I don't have it with me.  I WANT TO INVITE YOU TO TRY IN EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO HAVE THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD OR THE SPIRIT WITH YOU THIS WEEK.  By doing the right things, basic things, but real things, I know you can feel it.  I love this gospel and I am  excited about conference..  WE ARE ALL HOPING THEY WILL ANNOUNCE A TEMPLE HERE!!

Much Love,
Elder Rees
