Week #56 - The Kids here are so Great!

THIS IS THE LIZARD THESE BOYS CAUGHT

This week was a pretty good week!!

I still don't have my companion yet.  He is in Maputo and the office has informed me that he will be coming tomorrow.  I look forward to meeting him.  We may be able to pick him up from the airport.  I've been with Elder Nelson for the week. He is from South Weber and is way cool!  We have been doing a great deal of travel to make it to our 2 separate zone conferences.  Both of us are getting new missionaries so we are trying to work both of our areas this week.

At zone conference we had such a spiritual meeting about our temple and family history.   The mission has a new goal to start sending names to the temple.  Our big goal here is to get a temple so we are going to help the members learn how to find their family names.  We were asked to meet with new members and each of us help at least one member find 40 names for Temple Work!!  Presient Senna is doing everything he can to help these people work and prepare to receive a temple.  They have to learn how to find their own temple names to do this.  So Sunday we meet at the church to help members, but no one showed up.  So.... we will be gathering members to come to the church so we can help them with their family names.

This week after shopping we had some Africans come and try and get us to give them food.  Sometimes they get a bit aggressive about it.  We were standing by dumpsters and they must be so hungry, so when they see Americans they come and try and get things from us.  One man grabbed me by the arm and some other people had to pull him off.  We have a strict rule not to give the people anything - if we do it causes more problems.  But the other day I was eating ice cream and a little boy was begging for food.  I looked around and no one was watching so I gave him the rest of my ice cream.   It is sad there are so many homeless people and children.  They dig through dumpsters and even sleep by them.  Just sad.

On Saturday we had 5 people ready for Baptism.  We helped to get them prepared and waited.  No priesthood was there to do the Baptism.  We tried to reach the Bishop or someone, but no one came.  So we had to delay the baptismo until another week.   We have 2 more preparing also so I guess we will have a bigger baptism next time.

The church is true!  I love being a missionary!

Com Amor,  Elder Rees
