Week #36 - I will miss Nacala - New adventures in Nampula!

Hey family,
It’s been the craziest week here!  First off there was a way bad cyclone this past week and we all got evacuated to Maputo.  It was really stressful. Actually what happened is last Monday we got a call from Pres. Senna and he said we needed to leave as soon as possible to Nampula.  So we all packed everything and headed to Nampula.  We rented a chapa (van) and left. After a few hours we arrived and stayed with the Zone Leaders for a few days.  Then on Thursday we received another call from Pres. and he bought flights for all of the missionaries in Nampula!!  That was over 25 flights, since we have to take two different flights to get to the mission home.  We all flew down Friday to Maputo and stayed with missionaries there doing contacts and teaching lessons with the AP’s for a week. E também (And also) we were living out of our suitcase - it was a party.  I did get to my bag and I have my other pair of shoes and more shirts and pants now. That was great! Me and Elder Francome were in a house with tons of Brazilians.  It  was pretty fun.  We also did some shopping and had some relax time before we had to sair agin (leave again) to fly back to Nacala.

Nacala received a lot of rain, but not near as much damage as I thought they would.  The cyclone hit higher north.  It was really bad up there.  So we flew back to Nacala this week right?.... And we received transfers….I’m leaving Nacala!  I’m sad to leave the squad.  I was hoping to send off Elder Thornton.  They are all staying here.  I’M HEADED TO NAMPULA.  My new companion is Elder Jennings, an American that has been in the mission a brief time.

I sure have learned a great deal here.  PATIENCE would be the #1 that I have learned.  My Portuguese is getting better.  I still struggle with street talk, but the discussions are coming along.  I am learning better how to teach the people so they understand the gospel.  It is so different than how they live with commandments and meetings and structure.  They are so dedicated and they want to be baptized.  I am learning that I have to make sure I teach them so they really understand as they progress.

I’m way stoked about the transfer, but pretty nervous at the same time because now I’m senior companion and I have to help him.  I feel like I am so new.  The rest of the missionaries in my district are Brazilians.  Please pray for me that it will be an awesome transfer.  But as of right now I’m still in Nacala and I will leave tomorrow.  It’s been a way fun time (4 transfers) with Elder Francom and in the same house with Elder Latu and Elder Thornton. GIVE ME THIS MOUNTAIN!!  Really excited for this!

Com Amor,
Elder Rees
