Week #25 - I get to stay in Nacala!!
Sad news about Thomas Hogan. I knew Thomas really, really well. He was like a younger brother to me. I use to drive Thomas home from practice everyday and pick him up in the mornings sometimes when we lived by Trey and Ben because his house burnt down and they moved near by us. We would always chill in the locker room together and just talk about life, school, running, idk lots of stuff. He also loved to play basketball with us. Please tell his family that he was a quality kid and a great friend. All I remember is good about him. Please tell the team that I love them like brothers.

So Nacala is pretty fun still… We have been doing tons of work, but just this last week we flew to Maputo! We had Zone Conference - it was pretty great. I also had my first interview with President Senna that was a bit intimidating, but it went well. I asked him some questions about the mission field and he gave me some great advice that I’ve been using lately.
Well In Maputo we got our hair cuts, which I desperately needed, from Elder Parkin (I was in the MTC with him) so that was fun and I was happy to see him. We also had the opportunity to walk the streets of Maputo a little. We got to see some NBA highlights on a TV and went to the store to get things for Nacala. It was like a huge Walmart, low key made me way homesick.
So most of this week was travel and Zone Conference so we didn’t get much work done in our area, but that was fine with me.. Kinda nice to take a break every once in a while. This week we have 1 maybe 3 baptisms. I’m pretty pumped for that. Kinda sad though, we just got a text from two girls that were really close to baptism and they just dropped.. Wow, that hurts. Other than that this week was pretty great. We got to see the other missionaries from Beira, Maputo, and Nampula so that was fun. The work here is still pretty hard, pretty much Spiritually and Mentally taxing. Physically, I am amazed at how tough walking all day is. Then trying to understand and reach the people is a whole new experience. I have never stretched so much. I guess all the areas are hard, haha.
We have a Group President. The members are just a group. It is not even a branch yet, we are too small. His name is Tendi. He is from Zimbabwe so he speaks English really well. Also something cool, I taught primary this week. I showed pictures of Jesus and Noah’s Ark and the Creation. That was cool!! We had 45 attend church this Sunday. So it could’ve been better. We have more men in the church. This Sunday Andre, our baptism from last week, is getting the sacerdocio (priesthood).
The weather here is about the most lame weather ever! It’s just hot every single day. I feel like I’m getting better at Portuguese every day. It’s very slow but, day after day I understand more and more so that is awesome! i just wish I could receive dom de linguas agora (the gift of tongues), but the Lord works in mysterious ways. Please keep praying for me. In lessons I feel like I’m contributing more so I’ve been really excited about that. Also, we just had transfers and I’m staying another transfer with the Nacala Squad - so pumped about that.. I can’t even believe that I’m hitting my 6 months this transfer, that's crazy!! I feel like I just left and I feel like I’m still way new to Mozambique.
Anyway, thanks for everything, all the prayers! I hope I can call you some way, but probably not. I got to go now. Thanks for the updates and I will be praying for the Hogan family this week. Please tell the Davis XC Team that I miss them like crazy.
Com Amor,
Elder Rees
