Week # 19 - New Year with New Opportunities
This whole week we have just made a ton of contacts and taught lessons. We set 2 people for baptismal dates and we now have around 8 investigators. Ya, it’s crazy here teaching the people and to see how open they are and how they love to hear about the gospel. We teach about 3 lessons a day so not terrible.
I try to drink lots of water, but it is harder to find. This whole week we have had no water again. I'm fine. We just go to the store and buy lots of fanta and coke.
I am showering from a bucket. It’s the greatest - jk. I don’t really like it. It is just Elder Francom & I still up here in Nacala, but today we are planning to pick up Elder Thorton and his companion. He was the elder that helped translate for me when I first got to the mission home. He is from Davis High. He is so cool, I am excited.
The bugs are terrible. I actually found a cockroach in my bed last night crawling on me haha. I hated it so much and during studies they somehow crawl on me. There are tons of bugs..
A cool experience during the week. I taught the whole lesson about the O Livro de Mormon (Book of Mormon) all by myself and both of our investigators agreed to be baptized!
I am taking the medicine they give me every day and the vitamins that I brought from home. I have been feeling a little sick. I haven’t been able to sleep because of bats right outside our house that make tons of noise. Today I’m going shopping and I am going to try and buy some protein that will last more than a day. I don’t think they have protein bars or stuff like that - i hope something other than peanut butter though. There is a store like walmart here but not as nice. So it is not like I’m living in poverty but its hard with all the walking we are doing. It is like a city here. Our house is nice.
We met the Tribal Chief in a way small place that was not in my area. There is no bishop, just a leader that the church put in charge. We had 20 people show up to church this Sunday so that was awesome.
It’s hard for people to attend church because of the distance they have to walk. We do it every day. For them to do all that walking just to go to a meeting on one more day of the week takes lots of faith. Another challenge is that most of the people are not married. We are working and almost have a marriage set up for this next week.
Thank you for the thoughts and encouragement.
I have to go now. Thanks for everything and I’ll see you in a week.
Please keep me in your prayers,
com amor Elder Rees
