Week #18 - Opening Nacala area

It was so good to see you and talk to you Christmas Day!  When Madison came on the screen I was so surprised.  Wow! It was so good to see her and crazy that we are both missionaries.  It felt like we were home for just a few minutes.  Thanks for making me laugh Kaden and thanks for making my Christmas special.

Nacala is way crazy!

They have never seen people with white skin here so they just stare at me and want to touch my hair and skin all the time.  It is kinda uncomfortable to have people touching and starring at me all the time - haha.  It feels similar to my last area but it is a lot more beautiful.   Our area is right on the coast.  The sand is white in areas and we see massive cargo boats coming in every day in the port.  The down side is we have not had water for the week.  We have been showering with a bucket.

There are a lot of HILLS!  It feels like I am in Florida again.  Tons of walking and tons of hills.  It is exhausting.  Last week when I called you from Nampula there was a huge Thunder and Lightening Storm and I am so grateful we were able to connect.  I am glad I saw and talked to Madison too.  It was so good to see her.  That was a Christmas Miracle.  I feel a little jealous of Madison that she is teaching in English.   I sure wish the Africans knew English so I could communicate with them better.  There was tons of water from the storm and we had to use boots, just like they said we would have to.

This week the language was still difficult but I taught a whole lesson myself that was cool.  Pres Senna shared with me that if I will study every day the Portuguese Book of Mormon, that I will learn the language.  He has great confidence in me and my companion to do this work.  I'm starting to understand simple communication so that's nice but please still keep my in your prayers.  The work here needs to really grow.  We had 14 people show up to church on Sunday so the work is grande.
Also pray for the people of Nacala to stay strong and to turn to God and be Baptized because there are so many people who we just need to find.

There is so much to do, I am not able to send you pictures this week, but I will.  I got to go.  It is way hard physically and mentally, but I have been doing lots of scripture study about the Savior and wow it is very powerful.

I love ya,

 Elder Rees
